Transforming a Court

Honoring a Transformational Man and Coach

Arritt Court A Project of Special Projects

Honoring a Legend...

For nearly a half century, Coach Fletcher Arritt held court on the wooden playing surface in the iconic Thomas Gym. Built in 1949, Thomas Gym has over the years come to represent Fork Union Military Academy and the best in competitive basketball.

Following in his father's footsteps, Coach Fletcher Arritt dedicated his life to Christ, his family and to teaching, coaching and mentoring the many young men who came to Fork Union Military Academy during their high school years. Many of those students whom he touched throughout his nearly half a century career went on to college, and became husbands, fathers and leaders in their chosen career fields and communities. Coach Arritt has been recognized by the nation's leading collegiate coaches as one of the best high school basketball coaches. It seems right and just to place his name on the court in one of the most legendary high school basketball arenas in America.

A Fitting Tribute...

Now, more than 75 years since the original construction was completed, Thomas Gym remains structurally sound but needs renovations on both the interior and exterior of the facility. Fork Union Military Academy seeks to formally recognize Fletcher Arritt, Jr.'s incredible career by naming the basketball court in Thomas Gym in his honor. The Academy invites all former players, biology students, colleagues and dear friends of Coach Arritt to raise the $200,000 needed to fully renovate the playing surface in the Thomas Gym.

We hope you will accept our invitation to help the Academy in its efforts to raise $200,000 to formally and fittingly recognize the career and life of Fletcher Arritt by providing a gift to renovate the floor in Thomas Gym. The newly finished court will be named "Arritt Court," in honor of Coach Arritt's legacy.

Our goal is to have Arritt Court ready to play on for the 2018 basketball season. Please make your gift in Coach Arritt's honor today!
